Dramatic septarian earrings made of Dragonstone fossil gemstone, featuring unique arty ‘creatures’ from nature, set in 925 sterling silver!
Septarian is otherwise known as ‘Dragon Stone’ and was formed 50 – 70 million years ago during the Cretaceous Period. Massive volcanic eruptions attracted sea life, which became embedded into mud balls in the sedimentary rock, forming the nodules. As the oceans receded, the water dried out from the rock, so that the dead sea animals crystallised into aragonite crusts, with cavities of druzy calcite crystals. Septarian is often found in Utah near the Gulf of Mexico and Madagascar. It usually comes in shades of yellow (calcite) and brown (aragonite) with limestone (grey) and has a distinctive pattern with seven points facing in each direction. Black and white septarian pieces are a subset of carbonite, perfect for jewellery.
These dragon stone earrings are a lovely organic oval shape, perfect for displaying the black septarian with its encircling brown outer rings and the inner white ‘creatures’. Beautifully formed by nature, these sterling silver earrings are ideal for any gothic jewellery collection and are set in sterling silver. Measuring approximately 60mm high (drop length) and 28mm across at their widest point, each of the silver earrings has a handmade sterling silver fish hook earring wire.
