Rhyolite is a banded or spotted volcanic rock containing silica inclusions and is formed by rapidly cooling magma. The crystals grow in patterns in the rock. Rhyolite is composed of a variety of crystals and inclusions, including quartz, plagioclase, potassium feldspar, biotite and amphibole. It is sometimes called ‘rainforest rhyolite’, ‘rainforest jasper’ and ‘Australian rainforest jasper’ which are nicknames for green rhyolite. Geologically, rhyolite is found in Australia, Germany, Spain, Iceland, Ireland, New Zealand, India, China and the USA.
This rhyolite rainforest jasper sterling silver ring has a high quality cabochon, cut into a long oval shape to show off the crystal formations. The gemstone ring is a lovely mint/sage rainforest green colour and the crystal inclusions have orange and yellow colours.
