Moss agate (also known as ‘tree agate’) is not strictly an agate; it is a chalcedony (a mineral of the quartz family). It has a milky white, light blue and/or clear stone base with dendritic inclusions of manganese or iron that has grown into patterns like moss, lichen, hairs and grass. Sometimes moss agate crystals can be red, black, blue or brown as well as the traditional green colour. Moss agate is an appealing gemstone for those who adore gardening and agriculture - it is quite relaxing to look at as it is so reminiscent of nature. It is mostly found in western USA, central Europe, Uruguay and Brazil.
This reversed teardrop shaped moss agate pendant has a white crystal agate inclusion at the tip and also on the side, that are inside the pendant (the surface is polished and there is no druzy exposed) and the pendant is partially transparent. The pendant measures 47mm high (including the bail) and is 30mm across at its widest point. The pendant hangs straight and true when worn.
