Scenic dendritic agate is sometimes called ‘picture stone’ or ‘painted stone’. It can be translucent and has plant and fern-like markings in it (known as ‘dendrites’ – these are made of iron and/or manganese). It is one of the rarer varieties of agate and the dendrites crystallise inside the agate, forming the organic plant shapes.
This sterling silver pendant is an interesting piece in daylight as it features a highly detailed scenic agate foliage 'bouquet', but when held over bright light, reveals a well-formed and detailed hidden structure of fernlike plants with foliage. Russian agate like this one is highly prized, hard to obtain and particularly rare with this sort of scenic agate gemstone 'bouquet'. The dendrite agate pendant measures approximately 48mm from the tip of the bail to the base of the circle, and is 36mm in diameter. It is a substantial large silver pendant, an unusual piece ideal for rock lovers and lapidarians looking for something different!
