Pretty malachite chrysocolla ring size 9 / S / 58, with vivid colours, detailed layers and psychedelic patterning – an attractive 925 sterling silver ring with a large teardrop cabochon. Ideal for adding to your gemstone jewellery collection!

Malachite is an ore that forms above copper deposits. It often has eye shapes and/or bands as patterns on its surface. The first malachite was mined over 4,000 years ago. Malachite was mined in ancient times for green gemstones adorning the headdresses of the Egyptian pharaohs, and for its powder, which was used in creating eyeshadow and paint pigment for murals. The ancient Greeks believed that malachite was connected to Venus, the goddess of love – the name ‘malachite’ comes from either the Greek word for Mallow (a green edible plant) or another word meaning softness.

Ancient Romans used malachite for jewellery, ornaments and eye shadow. Russian czars used Malachite for ornaments and panelling for their castles and intricate inlay work. Ancient Chinese and Korean dynasties used malachite in decorative pieces and also as pigment. In the Middle Ages, malachite was used as a cure for stomach ailments and was thought to protect against the ‘evil eye’. Malachite can also form with chrysocolla, turquoise and chrysocolla (blue minerals). It is found in Australia, Congo, France, Morocco, Russia and the United States.

Found near malachite deposits, chrysocolla is a copper silicate with some aluminium and has a variable composition. It is a bright blue/green colour (due to its copper content) and forms as stalactites, botryoidal and renifom shapes, rounded balls and mass. It was used in older times for soldering gold and was mentioned by Theophastus as early as 315 BC. Chrysocolla is loved for its bright colour, as it is one of the most vivid light blue semi-precious gemstones.

This unique sterling silver ring has a psychedelic appearance, with bright green malachite layers in blue chrysocolla. With a polished teardrop cabochon showing off the gemstone, this malachite chrysocolla ring measures approximately 20mm from the top of the cabochon to the base, and is 15mm wide. It has a split band. An unusual, memorable gemstone ring ideal for meditation, yoga and healing.
