Chalcedony is a type of quartz but with a different crystalline structure, and the colour is the outcome of different metallic impurities present during crystallization. It is a translucent gemstone, giving it a lovely waxy appearance. Only the exceptional quality transparent pieces are faceted – the rest are cabbed or carved. The name Chalcedony originates from the ancient Byzantine city of Chalcedon, which is now Kadikoy in Turkey.
These chalcedony aqua stone earrings are small, light square-shaped crystal earrings ideal to wear in summer and at the beach. Crafted with 100% natural gemstone, these square earrings are a lovely light blue colour. When worn and hanging, they are a deeper blue colour than when placed against skin. Measuring approximately 25mm high (drop length) and 10mm across at their widest point, each of the gemstone earrings has a handmade sterling silver fish hook earring wire.
