Septarian is otherwise known as ‘Dragon Stone’ and was formed 50 – 70 million years ago during the Cretaceous Period. Massive volcanic eruptions attracted sea life, which became embedded into mud balls in the sedimentary rock, forming the nodules. As the oceans receded, the water dried out from the rock, so that the dead sea animals crystallised into aragonite crusts, with cavities of druzy calcite crystals. Septarian is often found in Utah near the Gulf of Mexico and Madagascar. It usually comes in shades of yellow (calcite) and brown (aragonite) with limestone (grey) and has a distinctive pattern with seven points facing in each direction. Black and white septarian pieces are a subset of carbonite, perfect for jewellery.
This unique one-of-a-kind dragonstone ring is cut into an oval shape, perfect for displaying the black septarian with its gothic 'eye' design. Beautifully formed by nature, this fossil ring is ideal for any gothic jewellery collector and is set in sterling silver. The ring cabochon measures approximately 25mm from the top of the oval to the bottom, and is 17mm across at its widest point. It has a straight band and is unisex (can be worn by either men or women).
