Moldavite is a green silica glass forms originating from a meteorite impact in southern Germany, 14.7 million years ago. The impact melted surrounding material and threw projectiles into the air, which cooled and solidified into moldavites. Moldavite is a textual gemstone – it has pittings and wrinkles on its surface (characteristic of meteorite markings), which is made by etching from CO2 and humic acids from ground water. The gemstone belongs to the tektite group (‘tektite’ is from the Greek word ‘tektos’, meaning molten).
Moldavites have been found in a large area, often beneath the surface of the Earth in buried crater strata and in rock formations around the ancient meteorite landing zone, including in Germany and Austria. They were discovered by prehistoric people who used it to make flaked tools. Since moldavite requires expensive extraction methods to obtain larger pieces for jewellery making and is also found nowhere else on Earth, it is likely to become very rare in the future.

The gemstone bracelet measures approximately 21cm from one end to the other, and is 18mm across at its widest point. All moldavite cabochons are 100% genuine moldavite with a beautiful green colour and naturally formed surface stippling with bubbles.
